2 mile walk and 3.5 mile run

October 10th, 2007

Monday was a long day after the long weekend of driving.  Wanted to go for a run, but Carrie wanted to go for a walk first, so we loaded up the stroller and took off.  By the time we were done with 2 miles, I was done.  Called it a night.

Tuesday, took Boomer for a 3.5 mile run.  Felt good to be back out.  Gotta love the day off.

Hot and Humid 6 miles, and Revel Fun

October 8th, 2007

Ended up blowing off the Revel Run.  We got to Shreveport around midnight, and by the time we got the car unloaded and the kids fed, it was 1:30am or so.  To top it off they woke up wanting to feed again at 4am and didn’t get back to sleep until 5:45am.  Getting back up at 6:25 to get to the race just wasn’t appealing to me.  So I slept into until 9am and went for a 6 miler around Carrie’s parent’s neighborhood.  It was hot and humid and I didn’t take quite enough water.  Last 1.5 miles were extremely rough.  Finished in 56:50 min.

Then watched a GREAT Red River Rivalry. Great game.  Had us enthralled for the full game.

Made it to the Revel in time to catch part of the Trout Fishing set.  Good time.  Always love listening to those guys.  Went off to get some food before George Clinton and kept running into old friends.  That is always a fun thing when we head back to the ‘Port.  Even ran into Dionne who had run 20 miles that morning, as her last long run before she completes the Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco in 2 weeks.  Couldn’t believe she was out wandering around the Revel after such a feat.  Eventually got some food and a couple beers, and some food into the kids and headed down to listen to some George Clinton.  It was a cool show.  Lots of energy and tons of people, both in the crowd and onstage.  Must be getting old as we spent most of our time listening from across the parkway from the stage as it was too loud.  Can’t let the kids go deaf I guess.  But it was cool.  Oh yeah, George Clinton was wearing a diaper, so G & A were not out of place at all.

Day off, then 3.7

October 5th, 2007

Wednesday was an unplanned day off of running.  I wanted to go, but we got busy and it was 8:30 and we still hadn’t eaten dinner.  So I decided to eat instead of go for a run.  Probably should have opted for the run.  Oh well.

Thursday I was feeling the itch to run and took off around 6:30.  Fired up some Reckless Kelly and was off.  Good run.  Felt strong through the whole 3.7 miles.

Won’t be running today as will be traveling immediately after work.  But am contemplating the Red River Revel 15K tomorrow at 8am.  I’ll be up before that, so why not, right?   9.3 would be the longest run for the year.  Sounds very interesting.

Soothing walk

October 3rd, 2007

Got home yesterday to hear that G&A had a busy day of crying.  They greeted me with more.  Some kind folks from church had delivered dinner and I thought I’d let Carrie enjoy a meal in peace so I loaded the babies into the stroller for a walk and we headed out to try to calm them down.  Up to now, they have loved going on walks and have fallen fast asleep.  Today was a little different as A decided to cry for the first 1/2 mile.  But quieted down after that.  Went 2 miles and was pulling back into the driveway as A decided to start screaming again.  Thought I’d go a little further and headed off.  Got about a quarter mile away when it started to sprinkle.  So I turned and sprinted toward home.  As much as you can sprint in Birks and pushing a tandem Graco stroller.  Made it home just in time for the bottom to fall out.  No run as we were getting some great rain.

Shreveport here we come!

October 2nd, 2007

Why the exclamation point you may ask?  Well, it is probably my favorite time to be in Shreveport.  The Red River Revel is in full swing.  Great music and arts festival, and the city has done a world of good building the festival plaza and creating a very inviting and fun venue to hear all sorts of good music, eat various foods on sticks (and homemade authentic cajun dishes), and peruse interesting art.

Kind of last minute, but was looking over the music schedule and Saturday’s performers is can’t miss.  Local boys, Trout Fishing in America are on at 6PM and none other than the funkadelic master George Clinton himself hits the stage at 7:30PM.  How can you pass that up?  Hopefully, G & A will appreciate the intro to musical greatness they are about to witness.

Sunday and Monday Runs

October 2nd, 2007

So I ended up skipping the 6:30am run w/ D & A.  I was up, but was busy giving Abigail a bottle.  Carrie would have fed her, but after sleeping only a couple of hours till that point, I decided I needed a little sleep more than a long run.  And the babies are still sleeping for a good stretch from 7-10am or so.  It was nice, but I didn’t get my long run in this weekend.  Oh well.

Sunday went by way too quickly, and instead of eating at a normal hour, I went for a run at 7:45pm.  Well worth it.  Good legs and a fast feeling in the feet.  Ended up with 3.25 miles.  No time, just enjoyed the warm evening air.

Monday was a long day at work.  Nothing earth shattering, just a long day on only 5 hours of sleep.  Not complaining.  5 hours is great for 1 night, but being short on sleep already, its not too great.  On top of that, out building was treated with a brick sealant Friday and my office still reeked of the VOC’s.  Smelled like someone dumped a bottle of paint thinner in the middle of my office.  Carrie had a great day with G & A on her first official day at home alone.  But apparently they had had enough of behaving well by the time I got home and I walked into 2 screaming little ones.  They fed, but were still screaming, so I loaded up the stroller and took G, A, & Boomer for a 1.5 mile walk to give Carrie a chance to eat in peace.  I love that it is getting dark around 7:30 now.  However, can’t wait for it to cool off.  It was still mid 80’s and very humid.  G&A stopped screaming as soon as we hit the street.  They love to move.

When we got home, dropped off G & A and took Boomer for a quick 3.25 miles.  Good run.  Fired up the ipod shuffle for the first time in a long time on a run.  Actually enjoyed listening to music while running for the first time in a long time.

3.5 miles and Elvis Reeses

September 28th, 2007

From late Monday night through late Wednesday I was struggling with some sort of stomach bug.  Not pleasant and definitely not the type of thing you can run through.  So I passed Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

Was feeling much better Thurs.  Took Abigail for a .5 mile walk to calm her down and then took Boomer out for a run.  Was planning on only running 3 miles, but there is just something about taking a few days off.  So I went a bit further and pushed 3.5 miles.  Good run.

Finally found the Elvis Edition Reeses PB cup with Banana Cream.  Good stuff.  Ate one and gave the other to Carrie.  Yummy.

2.8 miles

September 25th, 2007

Short run last night. Was pretty beat. Just went out around the neighborhood. 2.8 miles, but felt pretty quick.

Think I’m gonna pass tonight and try to get to sleep early.

Weekend Runs

September 24th, 2007

Did get a run in Thursday night, but not remembering it at this time.  Wonder why.

Friday night I really wanted to go for a run, but we had an invite to watch the OU/TU game at some friends’ house, and Grammy and Grandpa offered to watch the kids. First time we left the babies at home an went out. It was nice. Good game and great to see some friends and focus on something other than poop and feeding.

Friday night George didn’t sleep much and I stayed up with him. Got in a couple of hours sleep in the wee morning hours, but was beat. Watched some football during the day and around 9pm decided to take the pup out for a run. Was feeling tired, but not dead. Headed out and put in 3.5 miles. Probably had 3.2 in me. The last .3 mile sucked. Was tempted to walk it in, but pushed through. Was beat afterward.

Saturday, George continued the non-sleeping, but I was able to sleep from 7am until noon. Repeated the 9pm starting time, but this time felt much better. The spring was in my step and I took the 3.7 mile loop. Felt good.

Just realized that the Dallas Half Marathon is a little over 2 mos away. Wow, I need to start some long runs. I think I’ll try to meet up with A & D this Saturday to get some mileage in.

3.5 miles and Divinity

September 20th, 2007

Wednesday night went out for 3.5 miles.  Nothing spectacular.  Kind of hot and muggy.  Felt every step of it.

Celebrated actually going out and not sitting on my duff like I wanted to with a Saint Arnold Divine Reserve No.5.  Wow. Just Wow.  Great brew.  Nice thick, creamy body with just the right amount of bitters.  Finishes with a great kick as it is 10% alcohol.  Good stuff.  If you’re anywhere near Texas, I advise you go get you some.
