1st Brick

This weekend was the first in a long time to not be full of office work and/or travel.  So, I took full advantage of it.  Saturday am I spent a few hours safety boating for the Chesapeake Boathouse International triathlon.  The 2 waves I got to watch/work were the elite Juniors girls and elite junior guys.  I was extremely impressed with the competition which haled from all over the world, and probably includes a few future Olympians.  They flew through the swim course on a very windy and choppy day.  Between flights I was able to watch a few bike loops, and see all the girls get out on the run course.  They were extremely good, and fun to watch.  Definitely got me amped to get my tri on.

Worked around the house the rest of the day, and after the kiddos went down, hit the bike to chase the remaining minutes of light.  Ended up getting in 13 miles in 45 minutes.  Not the fastest, but I hit all sorts of graduation traffic, and haven’t been on the bike in months.  Followed that up with a 2 miler with the pup.  Slept well after that.

Today, did yard work all day, and just capped off the night with a 3.5 miler.  Good start to the week.

B-Ball and Biking

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Took two days for cross training.  Las night made it out to B-Ball for an hour.  Was late as the kiddos have been battling some stomach bug and have not wanted to go to bed at their bed time.  Still got in a full hour of play.  4 on 4 full court.  Lots of running, a couple good plays, but man do I need to work on my post up skills.

Brought the bike to work for a lunch ride.  Ended up putting in a little over 18 miles in just about an hour.  Went down to the river trail and battled the wind.  Found the downside of riding down by the river.  The trail is on the low side of the bank, with flood barriers up above, so the river is like a funnel for wind.  Not too bad if it is North or south, but a bear when it decides to come east or west.  Today was an easterly wind, and it was whipping.  The Out was nice-cruising along at a nice 21-22 mph pace.  The In sucked-really pushing it to keep it in the 16-17 mph range.  Finished with a couple of hills near the office.

Lunch Run

Back in the swing today.  4.75 miles, just over 41 minutes.  Felt good, but good golly was I wet when I got back to the office.  IT must have been 95% humidity out, and near 85F.  The humidity was killer however.  IT felt like I had returned to South Louisiana for the day.  Unfortunately we still haven’t gotten any rain out of the clouds though.

On another note, looks like the pro testing still needs to get better.  Ricco was tested about 10 times, and only 2 popped positive.  That make me feel better about the prospects of a clean race.
