B-Ball and Swim

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Tues night was a rousing night of basketball.  We had a good turn out, enough for 5 on 5 with 2 subs.  Played for nearly 2 hours.  Left exhausted.

This morning finally drug myself out of bed and to the Y for a swim before work.  Good workout of 3 x 250m free and 3 x 100m breast.  Nothing to write home about, but felt good to use the arm muscles, and be back over 1km for a swim.

Thinking about doing a triathlon this summer.  Can’t decide betweeen a local one, or one back in the ‘Port.  The one here looks a little more challenging, while the ‘Port one may be a better beginner tri.

Been a while

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

It has been a while since I last posted.  No, I didn’t go for a run that night.  Actually, took a full week off of running, but did 2 sessions of yoga, and did a lot of stretching of the legs on top of that.

But then I got back into the swing of things.  Went for 5 miles last Friday at work.  Followed that up with 7 on Saturday.  Add to that 1.5 hours of gardening at the church, trying to get some flower beds up to snuff, tailgating and attending the OU-TCU game, and I had a full Saturday.  Topped off the weekend by mowing and edging, re-routing the electric fence to save the garden from a dog who apparently like tomatoes, washing both cars, vaccuming one, and swapping car seats.

Instead of resting Monday, I went for 4.5 at lunch on Monday.  I was extremely beat down after that. And tonight is supposed to be B-ball, but I’m feeling much better than at 2:30am when Abs woke up and wouldn’t go back to sleep.  And she started walking yesterday.  Not long before I’ll have my very own running buddy.

B-Ball and Biking

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Took two days for cross training.  Las night made it out to B-Ball for an hour.  Was late as the kiddos have been battling some stomach bug and have not wanted to go to bed at their bed time.  Still got in a full hour of play.  4 on 4 full court.  Lots of running, a couple good plays, but man do I need to work on my post up skills.

Brought the bike to work for a lunch ride.  Ended up putting in a little over 18 miles in just about an hour.  Went down to the river trail and battled the wind.  Found the downside of riding down by the river.  The trail is on the low side of the bank, with flood barriers up above, so the river is like a funnel for wind.  Not too bad if it is North or south, but a bear when it decides to come east or west.  Today was an easterly wind, and it was whipping.  The Out was nice-cruising along at a nice 21-22 mph pace.  The In sucked-really pushing it to keep it in the 16-17 mph range.  Finished with a couple of hills near the office.
